Americans feel strongly about remembering and honoring their veterans. The reinterment of 44 Revolutionary War soldiers and family members presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate this patriotism locally. To date, many types of organizations, governmental, not-for-profit, commercial, public, private, and community individuals and entities have expressed interest in this unique project and its associated events. It is expected that many others will wish to show their support, particularly with the upcoming 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution and the increasing interest in learning about our unique history, as expressed by the rise in historical and cultural tourism. The project and its associated ceremonial event in 2026 will include a substantial number of currently-involved and potentially-involved people and groups – each one with a stake in its success. As the project grows, we anticipate the number of stakeholders supporting this project and its goals will increase. We will build in an allowance and flexibility for that, knowing that the end result will only be improved by the interest and dedication of all the participating parties.
Fundraising / Grant Information
The Committee has set a goal of raising a total of $500,000 to cover the cost of the project. While it is likely the project will receive some grant funding support from the Lake George Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), a competitive grant won by the Town and Village, it is likely that non-governmental financial contributions will form the backbone of support for design and construction costs.
The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance, the official “friends group” to the Park dedicated to preserving and promoting its history, has agreed to serve as the custodian of monies raised by the Committee’s fundraising efforts to support the project site in its construction and post-construction phases. As a 501.c.3 charitable institution, the Alliance is well-positioned to ensure donations generated for the reinterment site are documented as required under New York State and federal laws that govern not-for-profit organizations. Utilizing contracted professional legal and accounting services, all funds generated for the project will be expended in a manner consistent with obligations made to contributing benefactors.
A Fundraising Subcommitee of the Courtland Street Reinterment Committee is taking the lead on fundraising efforts and strategy. Questions from would-be donors and the general public can be answered by the Subcomittee through the Contact Us page.
